Voters in north-central and east-central Wichita advanced four well-known and well-funded City Council candidates Tuesday, setting the stage for a month more of campaign before the April 7 general election.
In District 1, 60 percent of voters chose Lavonta Williams, a former middle school teacher and incumbent council member. She’ll face James Barfield, a longtime critic of city government and former planning commissioner who drew 36 percent of the 1,491 ballots.
In District 6, 52 percent of voters backed Janet Miller, the Park Board president who had the earliest start in public campaigning and strongest fundraising citywide. She’ll face Bob Aldrich, the district advisory board member and former president of the Republican Pachyderm Club who drew 31 percent of the 2,778 votes cast.
The District 3 race in southeast Wichita didn’t have a primary — voters will choose between incumbent Jim Skelton and Charley “Chuck” Dahlem.
Tuesday’s winners are already planning for the general election.
