She made news as one of five African-American women to simultaneously join Wichita State University’s faculty and professional staff in 1997, at a time when the Kansas Board of Regents made hiring minorities a priority.

Now, Rhonda Lewis-Moss holds another distinction as one of very few African-American women to achieve the rank of full professor at the university, according to Gary L. Miller, WSU’s provost and vice president for academic affairs and research.

“Dr. Lewis-Moss is an outstanding scholar, teacher and colleague who makes extraordinary contributions to the university every day,” Miller said in a statement.

Lewis-Moss, previously an associate professor of psychology, describes herself as an HIV/AIDS researcher, public health researcher and community psychologist.

“She is only the second African-American woman to achieve the rank of full professor at Wichita State,” Miller said.

Anheuser-Busch InBev has been dropping its fan cans promotions in some communities that have complained that it promotes underage drinking and infringes on trademarks. But the cans are still in Lawrence and Manhattan.
